This is Patrick's blog. I hope you'll find my thoughts and ideas enlightening.
If there were one word to describe me, it's 'builder'. I love to build web sites, businesses, systems, computers, everything but work around the house. (I hate getting my fingers dirty).
Back in 1986, a new family moved in to my neighborhood in Diamond Bar, California - one of many suburbs of Los Angeles. I still remember the first time I met Adam Edwards, my new neighbor. He was 13 years old, 6 foot tall, and had a commanding presence about him. I was also 13 years old, 5'1" tall, and was what my friends call a little Ricky Shroeder. I admired him, especially his self-confidence. Nothing could get him down. There was no girl that was too cute, no football practice that was too challenging, no wave that was too big. Adam was my friend and my inspiration.
After High School, college, and a 2 year church mission, we both ended back up in Southern California where we hooked up on occasion to go surfing. We enjoyed getting away from our 'day jobs' and just talking about entrepreneurial opportunities. I told him about the Cognigen business I was currently involved in and after some consideration, Adam gave it a look. A few years later, both of us found ourselves without full-time employment and a lot of money saved up on the bank - it was the perfect opportunity to start our own business together.
We decided to name the business 'Telarus', to reflect the telecom nature of our business and also because it was one of the few domain names still available! We obtained contracts with T1 companies and started to sell. I created our modest website and Adam began smiling and dialing.
Soon, we decided there HAD to be a better way to do business. Spending countless hours on the phone during the day, and 30 minutes per T1 quote were weighing heavily on our time. We are big Robert Kiyosaki fans and we had just read the book 'Rich Dad's Cashflow Quadrand'. In it Kiyosaki describes the difference between carrying buckets of water and creating a pipeline to carry the water. The pipeline concept is the one Adam and I wanted to apply to T1 sales, where we could automate the quoting process and to create a system that would allow other agents to mass produce orders. We named the real-time quote technology GeoQuote, and created a new streamlined marketing site called Shopfort1.com.
Right now we are currently awaiting a patent from the USPTO, and we work with really cool agents like Daniel Pentecost. His main site is Anyion.com where he generates his own t1 service leads.
